The Project

The project titled “LIFE11 INF/ES/683 ¿Red Natura 2000?: An opportunity for everyone” (INFONATUR 2000) is an information and communication project whose main objective is to publicize the Natura 2000 Network, to disseminate its values and resources and to promote sustainable socio-economic development, contributing to the appropriate implementation of the Natura 2000 Network.

The INFONATUR 2000 project will help to conserve iconic habitats and species to be found in areas of the Natura 2000 Network as important and fragile as those of a Mediterranean nature (coasts, islands, Mediterranean forest, steppes and high mountain areas), areas which are subject to high pressure from urban, industrial and tourist development and where sustainable socio-economic development is the only alternative to prevent their future degradation and the loss of important species such as the Iberian lynx, brown bear, imperial eagle, black vulture, bearded vulture, grouse, boreal owl, ptarmigan, European pond turtle, bustard, marsh harrier, little bustard and lesser kestrel.

The General Directorate of the Environment of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Environment and Energy of the Government of Extremadura is the coordinating beneficiary of the LIFE+ INFONATUR 2000 project.

Budget: The project was approved in 2011 with a budget of €1,822,996 and it is 49.77% co-financed by the contribution of the LIFE financial instrument of the European Union.

Duration: The project will last for four years, having started in January 2012 and ending in December 2017.
